Children’s Dentistry

toddler building with blocksChoosing the right dentist for your child and family can help pave the way to future oral health success—meaning more savings for your pocketbook as unnecessary, costly work is avoided with focused and effective preventative care.

At Epping Family Dental, we love welcoming your little ones to the practice, and hope to create an inspiring environment that allows them to learn about proper oral health techniques and the importance of maintaining regular dental visits for years to come.

Here’s more on what you can expect from our family-oriented team.

Helping Children Understand Oral Health

One of our number one goals is to keep your child’s teeth healthy—and we do that through prevention.

When they visit us for a checkup and clean, we’ll go over proper brushing and flossing habits, talk about cavities and avoiding too many sugary sweets, and most importantly, we’ll make it fun so they love returning for future visits.

With us, your child is free to watch a television program or listen to music as they have their teeth cleaned. As their parent, we’d also love to have you back near the chair with us so that you’re an active partner in their oral health.

A general checkup and clean for a child will include x-rays (if they’re old enough), an examination of their gums and teeth, a fluoride treatment, and a clean. They’ll also be given a bag of goodies at the end—something every child seems to love.

Frequently Asked Questions

When should my child first see the dentist?

We typically see infants upon the eruption of their first teeth to ensure everything is coming in as it should. We can also provide mum and dad with instructions on how to clean their teeth before they’re big enough to do so themselves. If your child has their baby teeth but hasn’t visited us yet for a checkup, give us a call for an appointment.

If my child needs a cavity filled, can you do that?

Absolutely. We use advanced white fillings in the practice instead of metal fillings, which can shift and even fall out or crack the tooth. A white filling will blend in with your child’s natural tooth and be long lasting.

Will you discuss healthy eating habits with my child?

Unless you instruct us otherwise, we love chatting with kids about what they can do to help keep their mouth and teeth healthy, and that includes limiting their sugar intake—which can be tricky for little ones. We’ll offer healthy snack alternative ides and help them understand the importance of drinking water to help rinse away cavity causing debris that may get left behind.

What kind of toothpaste should my child use?

It’s important to choose a toothpaste designated for children—luckily, there are many different brands and options at the supermarket. You can even make your child a partner in their oral health by allowing them to pick the brand or flavour, which can help to excite them about taking care of their teeth.
